This week we walk through design philosophy, CAD, CAM and machining a set of Monster Jaw softjaws to hold shoulder bolts that need trimmed and chamfered.
I previously made a fixture for this job which was poorly designed. It was inefficient to use and was not able to securely, reliably hold the workpieces. Softjaws were the perfect answer!
Using the Tormach PCNC 1100, SolidWorks and SprutCAM made quick work of the job!

Folks loved the first DIY CNC Machine (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKmzlMvxC7I) – now let’s build one bigger and better!
Industry grade linear rails combined with a ground ball screw and a TinyG controlled should give us a more rigid and precise machine!
We’re going to use two pneumatic cylinders and a pneumatic engraving pen to see if we can use this machine to offload some of our engraving requirements from our Tormach PCNC 1100!
