In this video I share my process of designing and building a co2 laser cutter using a combination of ‘V’ & ‘T’ slotted aluminium profile 3d printed parts. I wanted a larger cutting area than my old K40 chinese laser cutter had, and I’m a sucker for a challenge.
FAQ:
Cost:
Total cost of the build was around NZD$3000 (US$2k)
Electronics:
AWC608 DSP controller – I purchased mine from lightobject though in hindsight i’d buy something directly out of China in the future.
Laser Tube:
Bought from Aliexpress, though you may have better options depending on your location.

In this video I will be going through the set up of my flood coolant system for the milling machine. This project has been in the works for quite some time. My aim is to flood the work with a coolant to help keep the cut, work and chips cool. As the mill cuts, heat builds up, which can shorted the life of end mills.
I was tempted to use a mist coolant, or fogbuster but my air compressor was not up to the task, and I did not want it running every 5 minutes.
Flood coolant systems can be expensive, are are typically used for large CNC mills, but I will try to do it on a modest budget and find a way to make it work on my mini mill.
For this video I will be using XDP 2000 Semi Synthetic Coolant.
I hope you enjoy the video.

I’ve always wanted to see if I can use a cheap small CNC router to do some custom guitar work. The CNC router I chose for this test is the FoxAlien Master Pro, which has rugged all aluminum construction, a 15.7″‘x15.75″ work area (with extension kit coming soon), accepts a Makita router, and comes in at less than $650. I would like to thank FoxAlien for sending me this machine for testing and evaluation purposes.
