I needed a better CNC router so I took to FreeCAD to create a workable design. I sourced up all the parts and welded the frame together. I slapped a 6-axis GRBL build onto an Arduino Mega 2560, piped it into a breadboard and out to some Nema23 steppers. They roll through 3D printed gears to ballscrews that drive the whole mess.
When it was all done, four months had passed. I routered up some softwood, then engraved some acrylic. I wrote an autoleveler into my CNC controller software, then probed and milled a circuit board. Finally, I stumbled through trying to mill 0.25” aluminum with a HSS bit. Darn near didn’t get that done.
In the end, I have a new CNC router that should be more than capable of doing the things I need done for the next few years. I hope you enjoy the video. If you want to look at the CAD file, or try to make one of these, visit this web page:

I am in the process of building a homemade CNC Plasma table. This table is designed to use a 4ft by 4ft work piece and utilizes LinuxCNC software with HobbyCNC electronics. Plasma cutter is an Everlast Powerplasma 60s with machine torch. This video goes over the frame and computer mounts and motion rails that I am using for the build. The next video will cover electronics! Very fun build! Building your own Co2 Laser can be rewarding and you can avoid large import duties, shipping and taxes that you would pay on a pre-built laser machine & you get to design it how you want it, to your own specifications.
More Info and Product Information I Use for This Build Can be found on my Website Here – https://mwlaser.com.au/diy-laser-build/ This will be continually added to throughout the build so check back Regularly for Updates.

The mechanical parts I will be using for this build will be from Cloudray Laser (www.cloudraylaser.com). When building your own machine you have the opportunity to design it the size you want with the material you want to give it a unique and personal look. I have chosen to use Aluminium T-Slot Extrusion for the frame of my machine and I will briefly discuss the design and plan for the machine I plan to build in a future video.
Building your own Co2 Laser Machine requires planning. In this video I go over the main considerations of planning and designing your own laser cutting machine.
