A colleague who makes Kydex holsters asked if we could make a stamp that would allow him to crisply mark his logo on his holsters! I said “sure!” not really knowing if we could but figured I’d give it a shot. He send over the DXF file, we used SolidWorks to clean it up, then SprutCAM to create our CAM toolpaths then machined the stamp on the Tormach PCNC!
We’ve only been able to test it on wood but I was happy with the results! I dropped it off with the customer last night and if he approves, we’ll try to re-make a final version out of tool steel!

I had long heard (and myself repeated) that drilling on a CNC router was less than ideal. But just how bad is it to drill materials at 10k RPM? That’s what I wanted to find out for myself.
I’m using Short/Stub Length drill bits from McMaster (https://www.mcmaster.com/drills) but there’s nothing special about them. Shop around!

This video is for the Concord Kids – a group of 5th grade students studying STEM! And, of course, it’s for anyone to serve as a basic beginners guide to a manual milling machine (Bridgeport) and a computer controlled CNC Milling machine (Tormach PCNC 1100)!
Curious how we film? http://bit.ly/2q8MfoV
Their teacher, Dan, email saying a video on milling basics would really help the kids understand some of the work they are studying. I love helping kids and would encourage everyone to reach out to any number of local programs – STEM, FIRST Robotics – anything to help increase interest and passion for engineering in our youth!
