Building our BRAND NEW HYBRID/ ELECTRIC Canal Narrowboat Home Ep156

Watch our brand new ELECTRIC PROPULSION narrowboat being built ready for fit out by Oakums Narrowboats. See the amazing work carried out at Colecraft Engineering who are building the narrowboat shell/ hull as we talk to the shell builder and the boat fitter. Our new boat will feature a hybrid electric propulsion system with full lithium battery set up and solar panels. This is the narrow boat that will be shown at the Crick Boat Show 2023

Paul & Anthony together with Dexter live full time, but manage to work part time, on a 57′ Narrowboat, cruising the UK Canals and finding out what it’s really like to be Living on a boat exploring the Nature and scenery on some of the best canals and rivers in the UK onboard a Bickerstaffe Narrowboat called Morning Star. New for 2023 we are having a brand new narrowboat from Oakums Narrowboats and are taking advantage of lithium, solar, electric propulsion and the boat will be coal and gas free.

The Chipbreaker CNC router bit is a hybrid of the rougher and finisher bit. It can cut like a rougher, but leave a smooth finish on your projects. If you do not have an Auto Tool Changer I recommend this bit when cutting plywood or thicker materials. This bit is a great bit to use when you need a faster cut than normal and you still need a clean finish.

In this episode I make the X Axis mounting plate for the NEMA 34 Hybrid (closed loop) stepper motor.

DIY CNC Milling machine build.

My objective for this project is to design and build a CNC milling machine without the need for any machining of the parts. Ordinarily, building a mill requires a much bigger mill to get the axis surfaces flat and parallel.

By using aluminum tool plate (which is in theory pre-machined flat) and bolting the critical components rather than welding, it should be possible to avoid any machine work. After all, I’m building a mill because I don’t have one!

Linear rails and ball screws are the cheap Chinese 20mm style that you can find on eBay etc.
