DIY CNC Milling machine build.

My objective for this project was to design and build a CNC milling machine without the need for any machining of the parts. Ordinarily, building a mill requires a much bigger mill to get the axis surfaces flat and parallel.

By using aluminium tool plate (which is in theory pre-machined flat) and bolting the critical components rather than welding, it should be possible to avoid any machine work. After all, I’m building a mill because I don’t have one!

Linear rails and ball screws are the cheap Chinese 20mm style that you can find on eBay etc.

This is a review of the Makera Carvera desktop cnc mill. It features a unique tool changer, wireless probe, anchor based tool holding system, laser and built in dust extraction. It is absolutely packed with features.

Please note that parts of this video are increased in speed to make it less boring, for example the footage of auto levelling. The footage of milling is at normal speed.

Tormach PCNC 1100! Tormach PSG! Emco V13 Lathe! Solidworks! Sprutcam!

A customer had a worn-out aluminum bracket used to drive a crank arm off a motor. Using the Tormach PCNC 1100, the Tormach Personal Surface Grinder and Emco V13 lathe, we made a much stronger replacement bracket include a custom shoulder bolt to accommodate the fact that the bracket could not be expanded on the left hand side due to machine clearance!

A good example of balancing an improved design, pride of workmanship but also getting it done efficiently!

The Haimer Zero-Master probe used to find work height can be purchased at http://amzn.to/1DPAdh2
