This is the magnetic breakaway torch mount I fabbed up today for the plasma table. It holds perfectly unitil it comes across an obstacle on the table, then it breaks away safely. Has 2 locator pins so it just snaps back into place in seconds, and will make changing consumables a breeze!

*SUBSCRIBE* Today we got some more knocked out on the diy CNC Plasma Table Build using parts from precision plasma and fourhills designs. I got the gear reduction units adjusted and put loctite on the drive gears. After that I got the gear rack mounted up in place, mounted the motors and installed the z axis. All in all a good day with lots to show for it.

http://www.joshendyblog.net – Check out my latest projects here!

Here is a quick and easy way to zero a CNC machine to a particular point on a work piece. I just put the laser where I want the end mill to be and in a few seconds thats exactly where it ends up.

The cross laser I used was very cheap, just a few dollars. Ebay search ‘cross laser’ to find them.

In this episode I use my brother’s CNC router (that he originally built for making guitars) to machine out the Z axis motor mount and I build my own 70 volt DC power supply for the stepper motors…

Transformer: Toroidal 750VA 230v AC – 24 x 24 AC output – wired in series – AirlinkTransformers.com
Vishay GBPC3504-E4/51 Bridge Rectifier
3x 4700μF 100V DC 35mm Capacitors
2x 1K2 5W resistors wired in series to discharge capacitors when mains power removed.

Still to do – Fuse the 48V output from transformer and individual outputs to Stepper Drivers.

DIY CNC Milling machine build.

My objective for this project is to design and build a CNC milling machine without the need for any machining of the parts. Ordinarily, building a mill requires a much bigger mill to get the axis surfaces flat and parallel.

By using aluminum tool plate (which is in theory pre-machined flat) and bolting the critical components rather than welding, it should be possible to avoid any machine work. After all, I’m building a mill because I don’t have one!

Linear rails and ball screws are the cheap Chinese 20mm style that you can find on eBay etc.
