I wanted to show you guys how easy it is to create a part from an image file on my DIY CNC plasma table. I basically go over all the steps I use to create a CAD file and export that file as a DXF file that SheetCam can use. I use SheetCam to create a G-code that my DIY CNC plasma table can cut from.

I finally decided to build a CNC plasma table…I want to do this on a budget, so I will be using as much material that I have on-hand as possible, and hitting up the local scrap yards to see what I can use…The X Axis and Y Axis gets assembled…

If you’re looking into getting a plasma cutter for your CNC table you need to make sure your plasma cutter comes equipped with an interface port. This will make connecting your plasma cutter and CNC table very straight forward and require no dismantling of your machine.

Our Article: https://fabricationguy.com/best-cnc-plasma-cutter/

Next, you want to make sure the plasma cutter you purchase has a vertical torch (aka machine torch). These vertical torches are made specially for CNC tables and are very long (usually 25 foot or longer). Hypertherm sells machines that come with machine torches from the factory, but you can also buy them separate if needed.

Lastly, you’ll want to consider the thickness of the metal you’re planning to cut and speed at which you need. Bigger machines (higher amps) will give you faster cuts and allow you to cut thinker metal. Smaller machines will be more cost effective, but will be slower. Take a look at the production chart of the machine you want and make sure it matches your needs. We always recommend getting the biggest machine you can comfortably afford. Bigger is always better.

We hope this helps you out and if you have any questions feel free to post them below in the comments.
